According to the donor the kains were made around 1885 in Pekalongan in the batik factory of Mrs van de Ende. According to textile curator I. van Hout, however, there was never a batik at van de Ende. What this lady did is frequently give orders to different batik shops, which explains why her name often appears on such batiks.
