- Exhibition: The Danube: connecting Europe
For centuries, the Danube has inspired musicians, artists, engineers and holders of political and military power.
In this exhibition, Europeana, the Austrian National Library and Conference of European National Librarians (CENL) invite you on a journey into the past, showcasing historical collections on the River Danube. The Danube is explored as both a border and a link, as a space of yearning for artists and as a traffic route. And of course, it is also about natural disasters and natural areas worth protecting.
Descriptions of the Danube region might have changed over time. But, over the centuries, the river and the surrounding spectacular landscape have always formed a unique space of yearning, preserved for eternity by artists and composers as the ‘beautiful blue Danube’.
