Italy: the refugee island
A year ago, hundreds of refugees arrived by boat from North Africa were wrecked and lost their lives off the coast of Lampedusa. The Italian island thus became a sad symbol of the tragedy of illegal immigration. Although Europe lacks plans to deal with the ever-ending flow of people, it manages to save more and more shipwrecked people.
