Magical bowl
The supernatural power of written signs is often understood through what anthropologist James George Frazer called ¿magic by contamination¿, meaning the belief that a magical object, in this case a bowl inscribed with curative formulas in Arabic writing, impregnates the water inside with its healing properties.
