Ireland participates in the European Kendo Championships for the first time
During the mid-1990s, Peter Sherriff, who had previously practised Kendo in France, moved to Cork and started a Kendo club there. Shunji Hasunuma, who had moved to Dublin from Japan for work, rented a squash court and found some students, after being told by the Gardaí that he couldn't practice in Phoenix Park.
