Die Brieftaube
This poetic painting seems like the visualisation of a legend. Is the young woman looking at the dove with a loving gaze the addressee or sender of the letter? In the choice of the pigeon post motif, Ferdinand Keller was availing himself of a topical theme. In the 19th century, an increasing number of pigeon post lines were established.
