Wainscoting with chimneypiece, wallpanels and a portico
This wainscoting is from a house in Dordrecht. It is constructed according to the rules of Classical architecture, with columns surmounted by a frieze and a cornice. The marquetry in patterns of contrasting woods enlivens the wall. The continuous wainscoting created unity and lent distinction to an interior, as well as insulating it from the cold and damp.
