Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao)
The ‘three large books’ assembled by De Boodt must have comprised a book each for plants, animals and birds. Many bird studies have a loss at one corner, and damage suffered by that book may have prompted the 18th-century remounting campaign. Here the added setting is still unfinished, and the Latin name for this South American parrot is missing.
