The marble of the Apuan Alps, economic benefits but also environmental problems

In the Apuan Alps is the precious white marble, known and appreciated worldwide. Only a minor part is used in manufactured goods, a large amount of marble is crushed to produce calcium carbonate used by industries to produce glues, toothpaste and more. This activity is creating serious environmental problems.
