Hostage-taking Marchegg: closure of Schönau

At an international press conference chancellor Bruno Kreisky defended the shut down of the transit camp Schönau which was used as a hub for Jews from Eastern Europe on their way to Israel. The Austrian government had decided to close the camp after Palestinian terrorists had taken hostages in Marchegg, near the Austrian-Czech border, in the end of September 1973.
