The man wears a headdress of ostrich feathers. Only a warrior who has actually killed an ostrich is allowed to wear such a headdress. Together with lions and buffaloes the ostrich is one of the most dangerous and difficult to conquer wild animals in Kenya. The adornment therefore indicates that this man has shown exceptional courage and bravery (SW, 2009).
